Dadpe Pohe – Coconut Infused Rice Flakes Snack

Dadpe Pohe is a traditional Maharashtrian dish made with flattened rice flakes. This cold snack has the very basic flavors of lemon , curry leaves and green chili , with the prominent flavor being that of fresh coconut ! An ideal , healthy and no-fuss evening snack , that is ready within minutes.

As far as Pohe is concerned , it’s a very normal ingredient in any Marathi kitchen. The most widely known preparation being Masala Poha.

Dadpe pohe is one of the lesser known preparations. I think only known to maybe our grandparents generation. This dish had gone down the memory lane for me too. But yesterday , totally out of the blue , I was reminded of it .

So decided to give it a shot , and let the kids have a taste of the olden days ( or should I say the golden days!). The ingredients required for this recipe are readily available in any Indian kitchen. So didn’t have to go hunting for them either.

I used the thick version of poha for this recipe. I just had to flavor it with coconut and after a simple tempering it was ready to serve! And as for the kids , my daughter loved it . But my son , he didn’t taste it at all.

For me having a plate of these dadpe pohe , took me back to my childhood days. When all of us used to sit around my grandmother, waiting for her to cast her spell and serve us the best dadpe pohe ever.

  1. Dadpe Poha is my ultimate fav !! My aunty makes it with patal poha, curious to Which variety is used by ur Granny preferably

  2. @Chatori Ladki My Granny used the thin poha too! But these days you don’t get good quality thin poha . The next best thing is the thick one , which is much easier to work with .

  3. Thin poha quality is something rare to get and have seen very thin Nylon variety which is not desirable for Dadpe Poha
