
Which is the most difficult meal for you in the entire day? I bet it’s the breakfast. And most of the time we just hurry through it with some cornflakes or butter toast. Isn’t it?
Even though everyone knows how important it is to have a healthy , nutritious breakfast , it has become difficult to have a wholesome one everyday. Today I am sharing the recipe of a simple breakfast called Dashmya. It is a garlic flavoured paratha / flat bread , that has been on the breakfast menu in every Marathi household.
Its easy to make ( no prior preparation needed) . And is a filling breakfast , to keep you up and running till lunch! It is also a great dish to carry for picnics. I remember , my mom packing these , when we used to go on a train journey. Just these Dashmya , some curd and mango pickle , and you are done!
So here you go….the recipe for Dashmya – spiced Indian flatbread!

- 2 cups whole wheat flour
- 3 cloves garlic of
- 2 green chili
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- Bunch coriander leaves of , finely chopped
- 1 tsp seeds carom
- 1 tbsp sesame seeds
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 2 tsps chili powder red
- to taste Salt
- 1 cup buttermilk
- Water , to make the dough
- Oil for roasting

- Take garlic , green chili , cumin seeds and a pinch of salt and grind it into a coarse paste using a pestle mortar. Keep aside.
- In a mixing bowl take the wheat flour. Add the garlic chili paste to it. Add all other ingredients to it except water.
- Knead to form a soft dough. Add a little water if required.
- Make around 6 to 8 equal parts of this dough and keep aside.
- Heat tawa on the stove. Take one dough ball and roll it into a small disc shape with a rolling pin. Brush a little oil and fold it into half. Again brush a little oil and fold it to get a triangular shape.
- Now roll it again into a bigger disc shape . Dust with some wheat flour when needed.
- Now Roast it on a hot tawa , applying a little oil on both the sides, till it becomes golden brown on both sides. Remove from tawa and keep aside.
- Repeat the steps for all the dough balls
- Serve hot Dashmya with curd and mango pickle.
