Kairi Kanda – Raw Mango and Onion salad

Kairi kanda ,as it is called in Marathi , is a salad made with raw mango and onions. It’s a favorite condiment for any meal during the mango season. It’s a kind of side dish, that can instantly spice-up a regular meal.

Is there anyone out there like me who loves raw mango? I just love the tangy flavor that you get the moment you take the first bite. The natural raw mango flavor is something that I can’t put down in words. Its just awesome. And that’s the reason we use it in a lot of recipes.

I still remember, every year at the start of the mango season, my grandmother used to prepare the yearly mango pickle. The best part used to be, when she mixed the raw mango pieces in the spices. And we used to get to taste a few of the pieces , before they went into a big barni. If it weren’t for the huge amount of pickle that she used to make, we( me and my siblings) would have easily managed to finish every bit of raw mango at this very stage.

Even today I love to have raw mango pieces , with salt and red chili powder sprinkled on it. This same flavor has been captured beautifully in this recipe of kairi kanda.

Give it a shot , You will love it too!
