Masala Poha Recipe

Some mornings are just, plain simple bliss. With kids having summer holidays, there isn’t any hurry to pack their boxes or rush them off to school. To add to the calmness , You’ve already decided on breakfast . You don’t want to have anything complex, but just relax and fall back on the ever-so-trusted mom’s recipe.

Today was such a day . And we started it with the simple Masala Poha. The light poha with veggies and roasted groundnuts is one of the everyday dish for any Marathi family. And yet is relished like a delicacy. The signature maharashtrian garnish of freshly chopped coriander leaves and grated coconut adds on to the flavours of the dish.

The recipe for this dish is rather simple , but has a complex mix of flavours , that delicately come together. Sharing the recipe here .

Instructions
  1. Take poha in an open mouthed vessel. Add water to soak the entire poha , and drain the excess water. Cover and keep aside.
  2. Heat oil in a kadhai. Add the groundnuts and fry till they change colour. Remove from the kadhai and keep aside.
  3. Now to the same kadhai ,add mustard seeds and let them crackel.
  4. Add chopped onions and green chilli and sautxe9 till the onions change colour.
  5. Add chopped carrots and potatoes, sautxe9 for a minute and cover the kadhai.
  6. Remove the lid , the veggies should be cooked now.
  7. Add turmeric powder and red chilli powder and mix.
  8. Now add the soaked poha to it. Mix everything together.
  9. Add salt, sugar and sprinkle lemon juice on it. Mix once again.
  10. Cover with a lid for a minute.
  11. Remove and add the roasted groundnuts .
  12. Serve hot garnished with finely chopped coriander and grated coconut.
Recipe Notes

TIPS

  • Use the thick variety of poha for this recipe.
  • Serve with fresh mango pickle.
