It’s a fact known to all street food lovers , that no chaat is ever complete without a spicy green chutney and sweet n sour Saunth / Tamarind chutney.  So before going further, on snacks and street food , I thought of giving you the recipe for these chutneys first. Here I am sharing with you the recipe for saunth / tamarind chutney. You can prepare the chutney and refrigerate it in an air tight glass container, and use it whenever required.

  1. 1. Take tamarind and dates in a pan, add water and boil for 8-10mins. Add grated jaggery and boil for a few minutes. Add all spices and boil till it gets proper consistency. Cool and strain the contents through a strainer.
  2. 2. Store in an air-tight glass container and refrigerate.
Recipe Notes

TIP

  • If dates are not available , make the chutney only with tamarind.
  • If Saunth is not available , grate ½ inch piece of ginger and squeeze a few drops into the chutney.
  • You can adjust the consistancy of the chutney by either adding a little water or by boiling it a bit more.
