Sheera – suji halwa recipe

Ganesh puja is just around the corner ! The preparations for the puja and celebrations are already in full swing!

The Ganesha idols , the Pandals , appointing of  the priests  …. Everything is taken care of. The kids are preparing for the cultural programs,…… there’s fun and excitement all around.

Ganesh Puja is a 10 day long festival , wherein Lord Ganesha visits us.  To celebrate the festival the entire community comes together.  The entire 10 days are filled with fun n excitement , and we all get a chance to come together and celebrate!

It was a ritual at my Mom’s place , to have a different sweet every day , to offer as Prasad during Ganesh puja. And we used to wait for it everyday, guessing what’s it gonna be that day! The festival starts with the MODAK’s ,of course, as it is the favourite sweet of Lord Ganesha ,  And goes on with Sheera, laddo , panjiri, burfi ….. the list is just endless!

Out of all the sweets , I think Sheera / Halwa / Kesari ( it has a lot of different names in India itself), is the easiest to make . Sheera is a sweet loved by my kids and can be enjoyed as an evening snack or a sweet dish in a meal. Sheera halwa recipe is an amazing blend of Lightly roasted semolina / suji , ghee , milk and sugar. With a gracious topping of your favorite dry fruit mix.  This hot Halwa is simply delicious!
